This month we had one of our largest activities with 11 volunteers coming from different countries; 8 from France, 1 from Italy and 2 from Australia. 3 CAMADE volunteers came from Jakarta making a total of 14; we all arrived in Atambua on the 16th of August spending a total of 11 days in the area. Thanks to the help of local friends in Atambua we were able to use 3 off-road vehicles to transport all our volunteers to different villages and schools in the Atambua area and in the mountains outside Atambua. As you can imagine it was quite an event to have so many foreigners visiting these remote villages and schools where we received a very warm and friendly welcome. Our volunteers interacted with the local people and despite language barriers we all had a wonderful fun time together with dancing, singing, games, outdoor theater and distribution of donated items such a school supplies, clothing and snacks.
Volunteers from France donated medical equipment to the clinic in Fatubenao which is operated by the St. Augustine Sisters.
We celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Primavera Preschool which CAMADE sponsors helped to build outside of Atambua. Before celebrating we all pitched in to re-paint all the playground equipment and then had a meal and cake together finishing with games.
We also shipped 5 bicycles that were donated by United in Jakarta. These bicycles were given to 3 different schools.
